For those of you who don't read the comatorium board (do i smell rivalry?) and because i'm a lazy fuck, i've pasted a lil review i did...
***
the show was fucking great. their best?... no, it wasn't, but it kicked ass nevertheless. i'd bet the northsix show ranks as one of their ultimates. there was just something so magical that night that can't ever be replicated.
for those who complain about the sound.... that's because the sound hardly ever sounds good when you're that close to the stage/speakers. i was on the balcony and have no complaints about the sound. the balcony is were it's at! sound was good, view was great and i had much room to peacefully dance my ass off. the crowd on the floor was a bit much. it was a trip to see everyone push to the front like rats once tmv hit the stage. everyone moved like a unit, like water, at the mercy of the mass. the mosh pit about 30ft back from the stage was pretty consistent, but went BUCK WILD when they were playing eriatarka. my condolences to those that had to endure that shit.
cedric was definitely on. his voice was really strong and he just owned the stage. that aborted caterpillar/handstand move that he pulled was unbelievable. i swear, he is some sort of raging feline. ikey's playing kicked ass and jon held it down like no other. i couldn't help but think what a tool the rye coalition drummer was next to jon. no offense to that dude... it's a rough comparison. i too was a bit disappointed with juan's solo, but i think that was a sound issue. he was otherwise holding his own. i've heard more inspired playing from omar, but he more than did the job.
this was the first show that i've seen them not start with apparatus (i think) and it sounds WAY better where it's placed on the album. i dunno... it's got the kind of energy that takes some building up to. Cedric gave the mic over to the crowd for a lot of the refrains... that was sweet. That song has grown on me the most.
It was nice to hear all their extended playing, but i was bummed that they didn't encore as a result of going overtime. Concertina woulda been delicious icing on the cake. I love that song live. Plus, it's always a buzzkill when the band doesn't return.
All in all, i was ecstatic to see them play again. Although Irving isn't very big, it is a major venue and our boys are hitting big time. I hope they don't start playing venues any larger. I mean - good for them if thats what they want to do and the growing legion of fans-... i just find the intimacy and intensity of their music fit for small clubs. (I know, i know, i'm just being a brat.)
