i'm in a retrotastic frame of mind right now and i was thinking back to my high school prom days or any dances at all, really..and how much the music fucking sucked. granted, the music i love is the kind that a lot of people don't and you can't grind to it, of course...but it was simply godawful. you can't slow dance to eminem. i can't feel the groove of shit. i wanted to take each member of the prom committee and punch them in the kidneys.
my question is this: did any of you actually have good music played at any of your memorable high school dances?

No matter what songs were chosen, at least two of them... EVERY TIME... were Micheal Jackson. Not that i'm complaining, i like Jackson... it's just funny that he is not just the King of Pop, but also the King of High-school Dances.

We hire the most god awful DJs at my school. Actually the whole dance thing at my school is retarded anyway. Each class has a dance to raise money, they have one a month in succession. So its 4 dances and thats it. Besides Homecoming Semi and Prom. I went to both semis and ended up hating my dates afterwards so I figured if a girl doesnt ask me or if i dont have a gf im just skipping prom. Its just another useless get dressed up for a night of promised fun, but get no bang for your buck, unless thats afterwards.
I remember last years semi they played C'Mon Eileen by that band with the dirty people. Sometimes we could get stuff like The Safety Dance played and that was fun but a rarity. One time a senior DJed the dance himself and he played Rancid and half the floor turned into a mosh pit and the teachers ran in cuz they thought it was a brawl and my friend Chris swung at a lady teacher but caught himself at the last second. Was awesome. Then as they played Flogging Molly i tried to coax one of my Brothers (like the religious guys) into the pit but he said he just wanted to watch.

I only went to a few dances. Once I got Silverchair's "Isreal's Son" played. A pit started and it was unfucking real.
At my senior prom we talked them into playing some Ramones, I ended up hanging froma chandolear in my tuxedo pants and a wife-beater. My Spanish Prof. pulled me down and gave me a dirty look.
That was one of the worst nights of my life for a few reasons.

I actually got one of my friends who is a DJ to play some Hot Hot Heat and a bunch of other indie-pop bands at the homecoming dance.

We never get decent music at our dances. Well, they do play the Time Warp. But that doesn't exactly count. At our last semi they played three good charlotte songs in a row. And then some Sum 41 for good measure.

I only went to a few and found myself quite alienated at almost all of them.
The middle-aged DJ they hired would always play "The Cotton-Eyed Joe" where everyone runs around in a circle yelling "Bullshit!" and when he played any country songs, a huge group of girls would start line dancing, which made me wonder how they ALL knew this dance and if they'd rehearsed it beforehand or what.
It was very strange.
